Meadow with Morning Dew

The first essential skill for a photographer of the landscape is the instinct to arise before the sun with or without an alarm. When I had decided to leave my half-time position at Bose Corporation yet wanted to maintain my close relationship with Dr. Bose it was important that he understand what was pulling me away. I knew that research was his passion and so I explained my habit of rising before the sun and he realized that I was not leaving Bose Corporation but was drawn to discovery, a kind of research of the landscape. He nodded and said “I understand” and I knew I had a friend for life.

Early morning is the time for dew, frost and fog and so what might be beautiful in the middle of the day acquires a connection with another part of nature that is somewhat like the violins playing pizzicato over the cello’s melody in a symphony. Add that grasses come in infinte varities and you have the Daybreak movement from Ravel’s ballet Daphnis and Chloe.
