Walking

By it, on it or next to it

Ground covers ar among natures greatest surprises. Since we tend to look straight ahead we miss what is underfoot or nearly so and we may unknowling destroy it. Or knowingly.

I was hiking down the Ship’s Horbor Nature Trail in Acadia National Park when this women all excited came running toward me yelling in delight. She had a beautiful patch of gree moss in her hands. I was too late in screaming “put it back.” Moss grows very slowy only under the right conditions and may easily be destroyed. We should know enough to leave everything in this gallery alone.
