My kind of photography is full of surprises and it usually means paying attention to what appears to be insignificant.

This pond is about 45 acres with beautiful mountains as a backdrop. But this small patch of reeds and waterlilies has come to feel almost like family.

I am amazed by how the different motions of reeds and water (a windy day is essential) create a kind of dance in which I participate since I bring the parts so close. A 40" x 50" print lets you see every detail, texture and motion.

But there are also quite days when the reeds just line up to show their fall colors. The small differences between images remind me of Monet’s haystacks.
