HIDDEN WORLDS V

SUDBURY RIVER, ASHLAND, MASSACHUSETTS

The Sudbury River is a tributary of the Concord River and is about 36 miles long. It is a small stream and winds its way through narrow channels and then sometimes spreads wide over the flood plain.

I photographed here many times and often at sunrise (as in this image) since this bridge was about 3 miles from my home at the time. When I was photographing the green walkway had not been built and I had to plant my tripod on the steep embankment towards the right end of the bridge. There are also images in my collection taken at various points upstream from this bridge.

This is about as ordinary and nondescript road as one might find. It bends sharply just to the left of this bridge and directly across the road is the Ashland Department of Public Works.

But there is nothing to prevent a beautiful stream from flowing through town, and nothing to prevent seasons and weather from creating beautiful images. However, you do have to be there when something is happening.

As is usual one makes one's own luck by showing up often and at the right time. This is springtime and the trees are retaining much of their color from the early buds. On this particular morning a storm was clearing, but what made it special is that the sun was at my back and the clouds had lifted just enough for sun to peep through before the clouds dissipated, hence: Spring Morning After Storm. And another lesson in that nearby may be wonderful if one pays attention. But as is common in most photography the best moment does not last.

The image just below was made about two minutes after this one.
