THERE HAVE BEEN THREE AREAS that proved the most fruitful for photographing. The first was the Mass Pike for its beautiful images but also for its role in developing how I see nature. That adventure began in 1980. The second, in 1985 was Maine, and the third, in 1991 was Walden Pond and the surrounding area.
I hardly knew Maine at all when I made my first trip in 1985 to Bangor and turned east toward Acadia National Park.
